MC4 Connector – Brief Introduction

The MC4 connector is the industry-standard DC connector for photovoltaic (PV) systems, used to connect solar panels in series or parallel circuits. "MC" stands for Multi-Contact (the original manufacturer, now Stäubli), and "4" refers to the 4mm diameter of the contact pin.

Tool-free, plug-and-play connection with a snap-lock design

IP67 rated – waterproof and dustproof for outdoor use

Rated current: up to 30A (4mm² copper core); rated voltage: 1000V / 1500V DC

Male (+) and female (−) versions prevent incorrect polarity connection

Flame-retardant (UL94 V-0) and UV-resistant housing

Typical applications: Stringing solar panels, DC inputs of inverters, and combiner boxes in solar power systems.
